Art Consultation
Inspired by political art and events of recent years, this provoking sculpture by artist Whathisname draws upon a range of influences including Banksy's infamous painting 'Flower Thrower' which has become synonymous with movements against violence and discrimination. Here, Whatshisname subverts the powerful imagery of the Statue of Liberty in New York, erected in 1886, by warping the pose into what resembles an act of rioting. Whilst the initial concept of throwing a flaming torch suggests violence, viewers are encouraged to question the symbolic significance of the flame and whether it is, in fact, a gesture of personal freedom and liberty.
Complete with a unique signature by the artist, this classical yet contemporary sculpture will create a bold centrepiece to any space. Discover more about this provocative release in our Curator's Picks or, shop our full portfolio of Whatshisname artworks here.
To ensure smooth delivery, this detailed sculpture has been cleverly designed to require basic reassembly upon receipt; instructions provided.

The artist
Whatshisname
Unapologetically provocative, Whatshisname (aka Sebastian Burdon) fuses themes of childhood nostalgia and pop culture to create artworks that inspire happy and joyful feelings. His witty creative alias - inspired by his difficulty remembering artists' names - reflects his art, which has ruffled more than a few feathers in the industry.
